Sustainable production
In recent years, the term 'sustainable production' has become something of a hackneyed maxim, suffering an element of loss of meaning in the interim. We would therefore like to reinforce that sustainability really does play a key role in our production process.
Reuse of synthetic products
For the main part all the material from any production failures and / or waste is sent to a specialist recycling company, which breaks down the synthetics into new raw base granules, suitable for reuse. Recycling is not an option for polyethylene (PE); burning is an acceptable alternative. PE is a high calorie value petrochemical product, which makes it a much sought after fuel for waste incinerators.
The greening of production processes
As well as polyethylene, bio-plastics are available from AVI. Another possibility is oxo-degradable synthetics, which includes in its raw state ingredients with an added compound, to ensure that the product will bio-degrade over a given period. It should be noted here that both 'green alternatives' are still in the process of being developed and that the effects they exert upon the environment have led to differing opinions among experts. AVI however is closely following these ongoing developments with a keen interest.
Down gauging
Our innovative research and development over the past years has led to more efficient blending of raw materials, making down gauging possible. This means that with the strength and other qualities remaining equal and constant, we are continuously able to produce an ever finer gauge of film. This saving on raw materials makes a less intensive – therefore more sustainable – extraction process possible.
