History

AVI’s existence can be traced back to the entrepreneurial skills of five energetic Volendammers: one building contractor, two plasterers, a butcher and a furniture trader. The year is 1960; cue a local football ground. One of the five mentions something that has roused his interest: "They’ve got this amazing machine in Edam. You pour granules in the one end, and dosh comes out the other end. How about we chip in and buy one between us?" The seed that eventually grew to become AVI, or the Algemene Verpakkings Industrie BV, was firmly planted.

One machine became two machines became four, etc. AVI was established as a producer and supplier of synthetic packaging materials. In 1988 our five founding Volendammers sold the company on to Cees van Os. The new director suffused AVI with a proactive policy of fresh new impetus. A period of renewed growth had arrived, whereupon AVI experienced rapid development in the synthetics market. In 2001 a strategic business plan was drawn up, which witnessed a reorientation of the company towards the market and the further professionalisation of the production process. A neighbouring building was purchased and entirely refurbished. In 2004 the printing section was relocated and modernised. By 2005/2006 the sealing, folding and cutting section had been renewed and in 2008 two of the latest innovative extruders were purchased.

With state-of-the-art, flexible production facilities, an extremely efficient production process and a wealth of expertise and knowledge in the area of packaging solutions problem solving, AVI is ready and tooled up to face whatever the future may bring.
